Our Staff

The Rise Above – Capital Region Cancer Relief office operated for 15 years on a voluntary basis, however, as the demands on the charity grew, so has the need for office staff.

Fortunately, through the help of the ACT Health Directorate, Rise Above receives government assistance to help with funding full-time office based staff.

CEO – Wayne Simpson

Wayne is an experienced business management consultant and executive.  He has held senior roles within Bendigo Bank and a local technology company and has owned and operated his own small businesses. He is a past director of local not-for-profit boards, Hartley Lifecare and Respite Care ACT.

Originally from Manilla, NSW he grew up in Central West NSW with his career taking him across the country working in every state of Australia.  He has called the ACT region his home, on and off, for over 15 years.

Wayne is passionate about helping those in need and has volunteered for many charities and worthwhile causes.  Wayne’s family has been touched by cancer with his father passing away with prostate cancer and his sister currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

“I deeply respect the support that Rise Above has provided to families in the ACT region, and I look forward to working with the team at Rise Above sustaining our support to the community and celebrating the success of the families we help, our partners and the organisation.”

Senior Administrator – Sarah Elliott

Born and bred in Bungendore, Sarah now resides in Queanbeyan with her family of 5. Sarah has been in the banking industry refining her customer service, data entry, financial services and policy-making skills. When time permits she volunteers at her daughter’s school, coaches her daughter’s netball team and can be found transporting her children from one activity to another.

Passionate about helping those in need and supporting her community, Sarah is stoked to be apart of the Rise Above team.
