Rise Above announced as the Official Charity Partner of the Canberra Cavalry

Rise Above is pleased to announce a new partnership with local professional baseball team, the Canberra Cavalry, for the 2018/19 season. The Canberra Cavalry (‘the Cavs’) compete in the Australian Baseball League, playing at their home ground of MIT Ballpark in Narrabundah between December and January. As the Official Charity Partner, Rise Above will be represented at the Canberra Cavalry’s home games to increase awareness of the support they provide in the local region.

Rise Above CEO Melissa Gardiner said the partnership offers a number of opportunities. “We are excited for this new partnership with the Cavs,” Gardiner said.

“The Cavs provide a unique platform to engage with the local community and to increase awareness of Rise Above and the work we do to support families who are going through treatment for cancer.”

“We look forward to fostering new relationships through this partnership to continue to help as many families as possible.”

This partnership includes the activation of a season-long “Rise Above Cancer Support Saturdays”, which will see representatives and volunteers of Rise Above at each Saturday game to increase awareness in the local community about the financial impact of cancer and the associated treatment. As a special treat, Rise Above patients and their families will have the opportunity to attend home games in the VIP Bunker Boxes for a much-needed break with a fun activity for the whole family.

“We pride ourselves on providing family-focused entertainment to over 30,000 Canberrans every summer, but hosting Rise Above patients and their families will be an extra special experience for us. These brave families deserve a chance to laugh, smile, and cheer, so we’ll be putting them in the best seats in the house and I know our players will be pushing extra hard to put on a good show for them, ” said Dan Amodio, Director of the Canberra Cavalry Baseball club.

The final Saturday home game on the 19 January 2019 will be dedicated to Rise Above with some exciting activities in the works. Rise Above and the Cavs have collaborated on some limited edition, signed snapback hats that will be available for auction at this game, with all proceeds going to Rise Above. Tickets to these games can be purchased online through the Canberra Cavalry website.
